It’s always the same story: before posting new content on Facebook, you are forced to manually set its visibility by excluding friends to whom you do not intend to show what you post. Let me tell you: in doing so, you waste precious time on an operation that, on the other hand, would require a few seconds. Yes, you read that right. A solution allows you to publish your content on Facebook quickly, without sacrificing your privacy: these are the lists of friends. With Facebook friend lists, you can divide up the people added to your friends to quickly view their content and adjust the privacy settings of the content you share.
Furthermore, using some lists created by the famous social network, you can receive a notification for each new publication of your closest friends and of whom you are interested in following the “movements” and automatically hide your new content from the people of your interest without deleting them from your friendships. If you agree, let’s not waste any more precious time and immediately get to the heart of the matter. Please make yourself comfortable, take five minutes of free time and let me explain in detail how to divide friends on Facebook.
Before going into the details of this guide and explaining how to divide friends on Facebook, it will be helpful to know that you will have to use the lists of friends to succeed in your intent. The latter differs between intelligent lists, which are automatically created by the social network, and customized lists, which can be made without any limit by users according to their needs. The intelligent lists created by Facebook already have predefined privacy settings, helpful in dividing friends based on the content you intend to share with them.
- Close friends: People added to this list will see all of your content. Furthermore, in turn, you will see their content and receive a notification for each new publication. You can disable these notifications by clicking on the down arrow icon visible at the top right, selecting the Settings item, and clicking on the Notifications option in the left sidebar. In the new open page, press the Edit button relating to the On Facebook option, locate the item Activities of the closest friends, and select the Never option through the appropriate drop-down menu.
- Restricted: This list is intended for people you’ve added to your Facebook friends but doesn’t intend to share any content. The friends included in this list will be able to view your content only when the latter has visibility Everyone.
As mentioned above, you can also create customized lists to group your friends or share the content you post exclusively with the people of your interest, without selecting the contacts to exclude each time. To understand better, let’s take a practical example. If you want to share photos taken during a business dinner and want them to be viewed exclusively by your colleagues, you can create a “Work colleagues” list and add the people who work with you.
When publishing the photos, however, to set the visibility of the images by selecting each person of your interest, you can choose the “Business colleagues” list. To create a new list, connect to the main Facebook page from your computer (currently, it is not possible to create lists of friends from the Facebook mobile app) and, if you have not already done so, log in to your account by entering your data in the fields Email or phone and Password and pressing the Login button.
Now, click on the Friends list item in the left sidebar to view the complete list of both the lists automatically generated by Facebook and those created by you. To create a new one, all you have to do is click on the Create a list button at the top, enter their name in the List name field and type the friends’ name to add to the list in question in the Members field. Once you have completed the customization of your list, press the Create button, and that’s it.
Share Friends On Facebook From The Computer
Once you’ve created a new list, you’re ready to split your Facebook friends from your computer. As indicated above in the procedure for making a new list, you can add the people of your interest when creating the list by entering their names in the Members field. If, on the other hand, you also intend to use the intelligent lists or modify the lists already created, all you have to do is access the Friends list section (the screen with the list of all the available lists) and select the inventory of your interest. by clicking on its name.
In the new open page, press the Add friends to list button, make sure that the Friends option is selected at the top and choose the people you want to add to the list in question. To quickly find a person, you can write their name and surname in the search field at the top right and click on the friend’s photo of your interest. After selecting all the contacts, you want to add to the list, press the Finish button, and you’re done. If you don’t see the Add friends list button, locate the In this list box at the top right and click Show all.
Select the Friends option using the drop-down menu in the new screen displayed. In this list, please enter the name of the people you want to add to the list in the Search field, click on their photo and press the Done button. Alternatively, in the In this list box, type the name of the person you are interested in in the Add friends to this list field and select the people to add from the menu that appears. In addition to the procedures we have just indicated, it will be helpful to know that you can also divide friends into lists from their profile pages.
Then enter the friend’s name of your interest in the Search field at the top and, in the search results, click on the friend’s profile to access their wall. Now, click on the Friends button, choose the Add to another list item from the menu that appears and select the list (or lists) to add the friend in question. If you are wondering if it is possible to edit a list already created, the answer is yes. Access the Friends list section, click on the list of your interest and press the Manage list button on the new open page.
Then select the Rename list option to change the name. While choosing the Edit list item, you can add or remove friends from the setlist. If, on the other hand, you want to delete a list, click on the Friends list item, linger with the mouse pointer on the name of the list of your interest, click on the gear wheel icon and select the Delete list item from the menu that appears. It will be helpful to know that it is not possible to delete smart lists created by Facebook. However, you can archive them by clicking on the gear wheel icon and selecting the Archive list option.
Share Friends On Facebook From Smartphones And Tablets
If you don’t have a computer available, you should know that you can share friends on Facebook from smartphones and tablets. However, since it is impossible to create new lists either by using the social network application for Android and iOS devices or by proceeding from a browser, it is possible to add friends only to previously created lists or too intelligent lists. To add a friend to a list on Facebook, start the social network application by tapping its icon (the white “F” on a blue background ) on your device’s home screen.
If the latter is not yet installed on your smartphone or tablet, you can read my guide on downloading the Facebook application. After logging into your account, please write the person’s name to add to your interest list in the Search field at the top, select the friend in question in the search results, and tap on their name. On his profile screen, tap on the Friends item, select the Edit Friends Lists item from the menu that appears and place the checkmark next to the list (or lists) in which you want to add it.
Press the Finish button, and that’s it. If you’re wondering if it’s possible to add multiple friends to a list simultaneously, I’m sorry to tell you the answer is no. When writing this guide, the only solution available to you is the one we just indicated: if you have more friends to add to the same list, you will have to repeat the procedure for each person.
