Tips To Increase Battery Life For iPhones, And Androids

This article sheds light on tricks, myths, and legends regarding modern smartphone batteries that seem to last very little. I remember a few years ago when I had a Nokia Symbian cell phone, how the storm lasted about three days, at least for a year, even using the cell phone often. Today my Android smartphone, if left with the factory settings, would have duration autonomy from morning to evening, forcing me to put it in charge again.

Everyone who buys a new Apple iPhone also complains of poor battery life for all modern touchscreen smartphones, including iPads. Let’s see, also with your support, to give some advice to keep the battery charged for as long as possible in smartphones in general, and on iPhones and Android mobile phones in particular. Many of these suggestions are related to common sense. In contrast, others will be concerned with more technical factors that can be communicated to less experienced people who would never read an article of this type.

Keep The iPhone Or Android Smartphone Away From The Sun Or Heat Sources

A good rule is not to damage your touchscreen mobile phone and not to leave it in the car in the sun, and not to leave it under heat sources. Otherwise, the battery will wear out sooner and will be ruined quickly. So try to keep the device and battery in a cool place.

One Thing I’ve Seen A Few Owners Of An iPhone Or Other Smartphone Do Is To Reduce The Screen’s Brightness

If you keep your screen at full brightness all the time, you waste a lot of power, and your battery life will decrease dramatically. Such beautiful, large, and high-resolution screens are very bright and brilliant. Still, unless you want to browse photos or watch videos, it is advisable to keep the brightness to a minimum or almost. On iPhone, you can go to the Settings menu, and I recommend keeping it set to 30%.On Android mobile phones, however, you can install a widget that allows you to change the brightness on the fly according to the use you really need on these bright days and reduce it to a minimum, especially at night. Automatic screen brightness adjustment is not recommended.

Lower The Screen Off Time To 30 Seconds Or 1-Minute Maximum

On the iPhone, you can set the screen to turn off automatically from the General – Auto Lock menu. The Display Settings menu allows you to configure the screen timeout on Android. It makes a big difference if you put your phone in your pocket after a glance and the screen goes off quickly. Almost nobody sets Airplane Mode at night, when you don’t want to receive phone calls, or when you play a video game without wanting to be disturbed. Since you don’t have to turn it off to use the alarm clock on an iPhone or Android smartphone, you need to ensure that it consumes as little battery as possible.

With Airplane mode,  signal and data reception are effectively turned off; therefore, the phone remains on standby, consuming minimal energy. Of course, this will prevent you from receiving calls and texts at night, which is good. Even when you go to the cinema or in places where the mobile phone does not work, it is advisable to set the Airplane mode and avoid wasting energy constantly searching for a signal that does not exist. On the iPhone, Airplane Mode is in the settings, while on Android, you can put a widget on the desktop.

Use Wifi Instead Of A 3G Connection

According to Apple, an iPad has 10 hours of battery life under regular use with wifi turned on, but only 9 hours if using the 3G connection; in an iPhone, the battery lasts only 6 hours if connected in 3G (read from the Apple bloc). The wifi connection consumes less battery than 3G.

Always Turn Off Wifi

in environments not covered by a wireless signal, and deactivate  Bluetooth and GPS  if they are not needed.

Deactivate The Fixed 3G Connection And Start It Manually When Necessary

The network connection and the internet connection suck up the battery enormously. Since the automatic connection is always set when you buy an iPhone or Android smartphone, disabling it is. If, on the other hand, you prefer to leave the connection always active, at least it is advisable to reduce or eliminate the Email control and Calendar synchronization,  which consume a lot of battery.

This depends on your use, but generally, you can set the frequency of control by putting it once every 6 or 12 hours. On the iPhone, you have to go to the menu  Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Download new data. On Android, you need to configure the  Account and Sync settings. If you don’t use it to receive emails on your mobile phone, deactivate the automatic check and only do it manually when you want.

Reduce Or Eliminate Push

Push notifications appear as if they were SMS messages when a Twitter notification or a letter from Facebook arrives. On the iPhone, tons of applications are ready to send push notifications, which could be better. Push notification is immediate, so the mobile has an always-on receiving service running. You can save battery by disabling push notifications for as many programs as possible, except the ones you need.

Reduce Or Eliminate System Sounds

The most apparent advice; it is useless to hear the noise of the keyboard or the beeps of some event. Also, disable screen animations and animated screensavers on smartphones with this option (Android 2.2).

Disabling Location Services

If you don’t need Auto Location Services (and indeed, nobody does), you can turn them off to save battery. On the iPhone, you have to go to the Settings -> General menu.

Turn Off The Vibration In Games

applications and regular use of the mobile phone to save battery. For every iPhone or Android application and fun, there is always the option to turn off the vibration. Mainly for the iPhone, if you play a lot, as you can easily see, the battery is consumed very quickly.

Disable Ping

Completely useless, from Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions > Ping > OFF.

On iOS5

You must also deactivate iCloud Sync, which allows you to keep files synchronized online: Settings > General > iCloud > Off.

Disable Usage And Diagnostic Reports

From Settings > General > Info > Diagnostic Usage > “Do Not Send”.

Recharge Cycle

  1. Do not let the battery run down too often, and above all, never leave the mobile phone with the battery completely discharged for too long.
  2. Remember that recharging a half-charged lithium battery has no negative consequences; much better to recharge it often than to leave it to discharge entirely too often.
  3. A good rule is to fully discharge and recharge the battery at least once a month.
  4. These considerations are valid for iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones, all mobile phone models, and laptops.
